Proposed Finite Element Modeling of Tanks

Large number of tanks with various radius to height ratios as well as various wall thicknesses will be modeled using the finite element method. Large number of runs will be performed and numerical relationships will be established to obtain various design parameters. Time history runs will be performed to modify the mechanical analog for anchored tanks to include the effect of base plate uplifting. Static push runs will be performed to establish relationships between the applied seismic overturning moment and axial stress at the bottom of the tank shell, as well as determine the allowable buckling stresses.
