This constraints allows a rigid connection to be established between the edges of two shell elements. In this case, the translational degrees of freedom are rigidly connected together. The rotational degrees of freedom are not tied except the one that is perpendicular on both fiber directions of the two shells. This tie could be chosen to be either rigid, plastic or elastic tie.
